One page. Everything Ronin does, in the order you will meet it.

How Ronin is organized

Space
└─ Folder (optional)
   └─ Collection
      └─ Group
         └─ Saved tab
  • Space: the biggest box. Work, Reading, a trip. The sidebar lists them.
  • Folder: optional, for spaces that get crowded. A folder holds collections and never moves to another space.
  • Collection: one page of groups. Clicking a collection shows everything in it.
  • Group: a named set of saved tabs, with an optional note and color.
  • Saved tab: a title, a URL, and an optional note. Tags can go on tabs and groups.

Pinned places

Three rows sit above your spaces in the sidebar. They are places, not collections, and you do not create them.

  • Starred: groups you have starred, from anywhere. Star a group from its ⋯ menu.
  • Unsorted: quick saves land here, one group per day. Drag them where they belong.
  • Sessions: snapshots of your open tabs, one group per save.

Saving tabs

  • Right-click a page, or the Ronin icon in the toolbar, for Save tab to Unsorted or Save window to Sessions.
  • Drag a tab from the Open Tabs panel onto a group or a collection.
  • Use the keyboard shortcuts below. Change them at chrome://extensions/shortcuts.
MacWindows / LinuxDoes
⌘ Shift UCtrl+Shift+USave the current tab to Unsorted
⌘ Shift SCtrl+Shift+SSave all open tabs to Sessions
⌘KCtrl+KOpen the search palette

Finding things

  • The search palette (⌘K / Ctrl+K) searches titles, URLs, and notes.
  • Tags filter what you see. Add them to groups or tabs.
  • The duplicates finder lists tabs saved more than once, so you can keep one.

Your data

  • Export a copy writes one JSON file with everything in it.
  • Restore from a file replaces your library with that file. Import adds to it instead.
  • Backup folder: pick a folder once and Ronin writes a fresh JSON file there after each change.
  • Chrome bookmarks import brings your bookmark folders in as spaces and collections.

Where all of this is stored, and what Ronin never does with it, is in the privacy policy.

Good to know

Only one extension can own Chrome's new tab page. If another extension already does, Chrome will keep one and silently disable the other. Turn off the other new-tab extension before installing Ronin.
